When it’s cold outside you may need to make more homemade meals, which can act to draw energy and warmth into your body to feel warm and nourished. Do you make soups often? Soup is one of the healthiest foods, it helps digest and assimilate food properly and can be used as a homemade beauty remedy to make us feel and look fabulous during seasonal depression and Cold and Flu Season.Homemade Soup Weight Loss, Beauty Remedies, and Stress Relief

* Soups can help relax and stimulate digestive tract. When you take in solid foods, the process of digestion is already at work. When the body can digest food easily, it’s less stressed, which can be very beneficial for our immune system.

* Soups can make you feel full with less food input, which is helpful for a successful weight management.

Cristina Pirrello calls soups a golden elixir in her book Glow, A Prescription for Radiant Health and Beauty, here is an extract:

Soup is also like a golden elixir for our skin and hair. Being a warm liquid, soup has an energy that draws moisture and nutrition deep into the body, particularly to intestines. So the ingredients of the soup, using the liquid as the vehicle, travel deep into the body carrying the nutrients, but more important, the energy of the vegetables, grains, or beans to the intestines, liver, and kidneys efficiently and quickly.

When these three organs are working well, they come together in a symphony of energy influencing the quality of our blood, making it strong and clean, which in return, nourishes the skin and hair and nails to be their best.

Here is how it works.

* If you want skin that is less oily and prone to break-outs, you might choose to make soup with daikon and shiitake mushrooms, both of which are reputed to work in the body to break down and eliminate accumulated fat which can result in common skin problems.

* If your problem is dry, tight skin, you might choose to sauté your vegetables before cooking them in soup to add richness of oil to the pot, to soften the dryness. You might also chose vegetables with a sweet, moist nature, like winter squash, onions, dark leafy greens and green cabbage.

So make a fresh pot of soup every day. Savor it’s deep nourishment and delicious energy – and watch as a more youthful and beautiful you is created with each spoonful.

Bon Appetit!

Breathe, smile and be happy.

Glowing Skin, Weight Loss, Detox, and Other Great Reasons to Eat Radishes

May 21, 2012

0 Comments

Radishes are one of my favorite vegetables. Here are some great reasons to eat at least one radish a day.

Radishes can stimulate the liver and improve elimination.

Radishes are a fantastic weight loss detox and beauty remedies food.

Radishes can be used to clear your sinuses, for hoarseness, excessive phlegm and sore throats.Reasons to Eat Radishes

Radishes can help keep your thyroid hormones in balance.

Radishes can cleanse your kidneys and decrease water retention.

Radishes are also a beauty remedies food. They can rejuvenate your skin because of their high sulfur, silicon and vitamin C content. The sulfurous mustard oil in radishes stimulates the circulation system which can help make your skin look radiant.

You might need to eat more radishes if you suffer from:

  • poor skin quality, brittle nails and hair, dental cavities, atherosclerosis, lung disorders, which can be caused by silicon deficiency.
  • acne, arthritis, brittle hair and nails, immune dysfunction, memory loss, rashes, slow wound healing, which can be caused by sulfur deficiency.

Remember that sulfurous foods should be combined with fatty foods (avocado, nuts, some seeds, etc.) for proper digestion. If you suffer from excessive gas, eat sulfur-rich foods with salty vegetables, for example, seaweed.

Breathe, smile and be happy.

Listen to Your Body: Tips to Beat Sugar and Chocolate Cravings

March 13, 2012

1 Comment

Most of  people think that having cravings is a bad thing and that we have to do our best to get rid of them.

It’s not true!

Our cravings tell us that some brain chemicals are missing in our bodies. Having cravings is a unique way of our bodies communicate with us and a wonderful tool for finding which foods work best for us. Tips to Beat Sugar and Chocolate Cravings

In general, we might have cravings if we:

  • don’t drink enough water (dehydration is considered to be a mild hunger);
  • are bored, stressed out, dissatisfied with our relationship, (emotional eating);
  • eat too much sugar, salt, processed food;
  • don’t eat enough seasonal foods;
  • have hormonal changes;
  • don’t eat some foods for a long period of time.

Tips to Beat Sugar and Chocolate Cravings

Whenever we have cravings, our body tries to tell us something, which means it’s time to learn how to listen to our body in order to understand its needs and imbalances.

  • Feel like eating sweet foods?

It always means that your blood sugar is low and your body is asking for energy.Tips to Beat Sugar and Chocolate Cravings

Try to eat more sweet potatoes, yams, winter squash, beets, carrots.

Whole foods such as grains, beans, fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds will be very helpful because they contain complex carbohydrates – chains of three or more single sugar molecules linked together- and are digested slowly and steadily.

Studies show this helps control blood sugar, diabetes, and insulin levels. Because whole foods are rich in fiber, they can help with weight loss and detox of your body.

  • Feel like eating chocolate?

Did you know that chocolate (dark, healthy for us) is very rich in Magnesium? People who crave chocolate may have a  low Magnesium level. They can also eat more whole foods, such as beans ((mung, aduki, black), whole grains (buckwheat, millet, barley), nuts and seeds (almonds, cashews, sesame seeds). A good source of Magnesium is spirulina, dried seaweeds, chlorella.

Learning how to listen to our bodies can be a rewarding process.

Let us be crave smart to feel and look fabulous, shall we?
